An update on Ben's feet
well it was quite the day yesterday! the specialist informed us that ben has an extreme case of flat feet. usually they would use corrective shoes until 8 years old and then do surgery. ben is a rare, rare case and he feels he needs the surgery now. if we wait, he may not be able to walk in the future because it will be so painful. so we are going to get one more opinion (this is the 2nd) and pray over his feet. we pray God will heal him but if He chooses not to, we are grateful for the specialized surgeons at Children's Hospital which is right up the road from us. the recovery will be the trial. (besides the 1-2 hour surgery which will include shaving bones and inserting temporary pins on my precious baby) he will have each foot in a cast for 8 weeks. which means he will have to be carried everywhere and not allowed to move and put into a tiny wheelchair. he is 2 1/2 so you can imagine the work that lays ahead of us. then rehab will start for another few months. so potty training is on the back burner officially! we have stairs at home so you can imagine the shape we will be in carrying him up and down. (finally lose that baby weight i gained with him!) wahoo! anyhoo, needless to say my mind was completely consumed about all of this as i was cooking dinner last night and i wasn't paying attention and i splashed about a cup of hot boiling water on my belly. it looks like a second degree burn and now it's starting to bubble. not fun!! anyhoo, we still praise Jesus and we know that He is in complete control and we are safely in His hands and we find our comfort in Him. Blessed Be His Name!
the pictures above are xrays of ben's feet. the first shows the bottom pen line pointing toward the right. it should be pointing straight upward, flush with the top pen line. 2nd picture shows the bottom pen line pointing down diagonally off the page. that's ben's bone. it should be lined up with the top pen line towards the toes. it's about 30 degrees off. if untreated, his bones will continue to grow outward even with special shoes. surgery is inevitable, but the longer we wait, the worse it will become for ben. thanks for your prayers.....
